What makes the Michael Best experience unique is that you will be doing real, substantive work – no stereotypical intern coffee runs here. In addition to honing your writing, research, and project management skills, you will be interfacing directly with both clients and policymakers. This opportunity isn’t for someone looking for an easygoing, check the box internship experience. This is your professional career’s launch pad.

We have three internship sessions in DC: spring, summer, and fall. You can find the dates and application deadlines below:

Spring Internship Program:

  • Applications close November 1.
  • Interview & offer issued in November/December.
  • Internship duration from January to May (exact dates agreed upon by MBS and candidate).
  • Internship Commitment Level: Part time, at least two full days physically in the office.

Summer Internship Program:

  • Applications close April 1.
  • Interview & offer issued in April/May.
  • Internship duration from end of May to August (exact dates agreed upon by MBS and candidate).
  • Internship Commitment Level: Part time of full time.

Fall Internship Program:

  • Applications close August 1.
  • Interview & offer issued in August/September.
  • Internship duration from September to December (exact dates agreed upon by MBS and candidate).
  • Internship Commitment Level: Part time, at least two full days physically in the office.

Our office, located at the brand new Wharf in Southwest DC, provides a beautiful environment for you to get your first experience in federal government relations work. We also want this experience to be as beneficial and rewarding to you as possible; that’s why, despite a highly competitive application process, we select a small number of interns for each session. Finally, our internship is a paid experience to open this opportunity to applicants of all backgrounds.

About You:

The ideal candidate shall be:

  • A rising junior or senior in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Maintaining a GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Pursuing a major relevant to this field: political science, government, public policy, economics, communications, etc.
  • Highly personable, eager and curious, and excited to take their first steps into the professional world
