Overview

Lucia is an experienced government relations professional with more than 10 years of experience effectively advocating for her clients on Capitol Hill. She helps clients develop and execute short- and long-term policy strategies to achieve their business objectives. Lucia’s areas of expertise include appropriations and the federal budget, energy and environment, defense and national security, transportation, tax, labor and employment, education, healthcare, and economic development. 

In addition to her duties at Michael Best, Lucia currently serves as president of the non-partisan, non-profit the Hispanic Lobbyists Association, which advocates for Hispanic representation in the advocacy industry. As HLA President, Lucia leads the group's fundraising as well as professional development and social programming for more than 200 HLA members. 

Before joining Michael Best Strategies, Lucia originated the Chief of Staff role at Ferox Strategies, a start-up bipartisan government relations firm, where she led the firm’s research, writing, and operations as well as a full slate of lobbying work while also managing the firm's staff. During her tenure, the firm earned recognition from Bloomberg Government as a top performer from 2018 through 2020. The firm’s clients included Fortune 50 companies, major nonprofits, and businesses in a wide range of industry sectors.

Lucia previously served as director at the Podesta Group, a well-known bipartisan lobbying and public affairs firm. There, she leveraged connections with members of Congress, committee offices, and executive agencies to help advance clients’ interests. Lucia also worked closely with congressional members and their offices while working as March of Dimes Gourmet Gala Congressional Coordinator.

Earlier in her career, Lucia served as a policy aide, legislative correspondent, and constituent services representative for U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) in both Kansas City, MO and Washington DC. She helped draft proposed legislation, conducted policy research and analysis, and acted as a liaison to interest groups and federal agencies.
