Michael Best Strategies LLC (Strategies) is pleased to announce that Partner Tami Jackson Buckner and Principal Lucia M. Alonzo have been named to The Hill’s Top Lobbyists 2021 list. The exclusive listing singles out ‘people who stand out for delivering results for their clients in the halls of Congress and in the administration.’
Buckner, a legislative strategist with more than two-and-a-half decades of experience, joined the Strategies team as a partner in September of 2020. Her career has encompassed developing legislative and regulatory policy strategies on issues ranging from agriculture, food, and nutrition to energy and the environment sectors for Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Strategies, she worked at Waste Management in Washington, D.C. and also served in corporate leadership roles in government and public affairs at Kraft Foods Group, The Coca-Cola Company, and DuPont.
Alonzo, who joined the Strategies team in January of 2021, is a seasoned communicator with expertise in appropriations, tax, and homeland security and defense policy. Prior to joining Strategies, Alonzo served as Chief of Staff for Ferox Strategies, a startup bipartisan government affairs firm founded in 2017 that has represented Fortune 50 firms, national non-profits and other startups. She also previously worked for the Podesta Group and for Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri.
Buckner was recently named to a new advisory board at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, created to support the school’s mission of building an inclusive community of well-rounded future leaders and providing innovative and forward-thinking solutions that encourage change for the common good. She also serves on the board of trustees at Stillman College and as a board member at The Maryland Center at Bowie State University. She is also an Advisory Board Member for the Girl Scouts Nation’s Capitol and a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and The Links, Incorporated. Additionally, Buckner was included in The Hill’s Top Lobbyists 2020 list.
Alonzo serves as spokesperson and vice president of the Hispanic Lobbyists Association, a nonpartisan trade group promoting diversity in the advocacy profession. Alonzo appeared on The Hill’s Top Lobbyists “Hired Guns” list in 2020.
Buckner received her B.S. in Political Science and Business Administration from Hampton University and a M.A. in Public Policy, magna cum laude, from Clark Atlanta University.
Alonzo earned her B.A. from Truman State University.
